Resurrecting the Slang of My Youth

Bochuggie is a word that may be indigenous to my family. It was popular with all the little Martz's during our teenage years in the late '60's. It means, "to wig out, usually over something insignificant."

Example: When my parents see the "Frank Zappa" tattoo on my forehead, they're gonna have a bochuggie.

When we saw the new tongue ring our 19 year old got, his father and I had a "bochuggie."

Now he and his girlfriend have matching piercings...

Remember the law of Karma, my dear, Robby is in line for many bochuggies of his own!

How do you pronounce that? Found you through your "wool gathering" in your interests. I am a gatherer of wool also! Jen

Hi Jen,

Thanks for checking out a fellow wool gatherer! The word is pronouneced bow-chug-ee with the accent on the first syllable. I hope you are able to incorporate it into your vocabulary!

Thanks very much, Anonymous, what a lovely compliment! I hope you've had a chance to check out my City Slicker blog, it's where I spend my blogging time these days.

(I have also evolved into a shameless self-promoter, in case you didn't notice!)
